Christians believe that all of mankind was created to be in relationship with God. But this isn't how we live. Instead, we rejected God, living our lives the way we wanted to and ignoring God's instruction for our lives. The problem is, we can't go on living this way forever. The consequence of our rejection of God is death and condemnation.

Because God loves us he doesn't want us to face this. For this reason God sent his only son, Jesus, to earth. Jesus lived a perfect life in full relationship with God---the way we were meant to. Jesus was the only person ever to live that did not deserve God's condemnation or death.

Yet Jesus willingly allowed himself to be crucified and put to death on a cross. On the cross, Jesus faced on our behalf the condemnation that we deserve. Jesus was buried, but then three days later rose to life once again.

Christians believe that any person who trusts that Jesus' death took their condemnation from them is saved by Him. A Christian is merely someone who has done just this: trusted in Jesus' death and resurrection and is now saved.
