Mid-Year Conference 2011

Woman? Man? Carer?
Ruler? Destroyer?
Creator? Lover? Hater?
Murderer? Life Giver?

What does it mean to be Human?

What does it mean to be created in God’s image?

What is your purpose on earth?

What does Jesus have to do with it?

Who are YOU?

Join us for 5 challenging and life-changing days as we go deep into the Bible at MYC 2011 to find out who we really are.

What exactly is MYC?

MYC is an annual conference for UNSW students run by Campus Bible Study.

We do a whole bunch of stuff during the week: evening sessions in the main auditorium with singing and bible talks, big group seminars with discussion & diagrams, small groups with fellowship and prayer, sports & games, and hundreds of students trying to learn more about Jesus.

Who should go?

Everyone! For Christians, MYC is a chance to grow in your understanding of God, and to meet lots of other Christians in your faculty.

If you're not a Christian, MYC is the best way to seriously consider the claims of Jesus and understand what it means to be a Christian.

Costs for 2011

First Timers Earlybird Rate: $225
Standard Earlybird Rate: $285

Earlybird finishes at the end of Week 10 (May 15).

What does the cost cover?

Everything! Food, accomodation and conference materials.

What if I can't afford the full amount?

There are lots of options if you can't pay the full amount up front. Graduate students who have had their lives changed by MYC often donate money specifically to help other students make it along to MYC. Talk to one of the CBS staff-workers or email us and we'll be happpy to chat.

Can I pay a deposit now and the full amount later?

Yes! You can pay a $20 deposit and the remainder will be payable when you register on the first day of MYC. Please note however that deposits are non-refundable and non-transferrable because of the admin work involved.

Location

MYC is held at the Merroo Conference Centre which is located about 1.5 hours west of the Sydney CBD, 10 minutes away from Richmond. There are two options for getting to MYC – driving or by train.

Train

We'll have free buses departing from Richmond Station in the morning, and there will be CBS people to direct you once you arrive at the station.

If you plan to catch the train watch out for the train timetable that we'll post up here and email out closer to the date.

Please note that there is no train and bus organized for those arriving early on Sunday for Pre-MYC. If you are unable to make your own way let us know.

Driving

Take the M2 Hills Motorway until you reach Seven Hills. Turn right onto Old Windsor Road (which becomes Windsor Road a little later on) and follow it through to Windsor.

Once you arrive at Windsor turn right into Richmond Road and follow this road through Richmond (you should pass the Richmond McDonalds) until North Richmond, where it becomes the Bells Line of Road. Turn right into Mill Road (you will see a number of signs at the Mill Road junction pointing to Merroo) and follow the road until you reach the Merroo Conference Centre.

Q: What do I need to bring with me?

Here’s a checklist for packing:

  1. Sleeping bag
  2. Bed linen (sheet and pillow case) if desired
  3. Lots of warm clothes (ugg boots are handy)
  4. Toiletries (toothbrush, shampoo, etc)
  5. Your Bible!
  6. Pens (and highlighters if you have any)
  7. Spare money for the bookstall and other items which will be on sale
  8. Your timetable for Semester 2

There are basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, plus playing fields and even a pool, so come prepared for recreation time! You may also want to bring cards or other fun games.

Q: Can my friends from other Uni's come along too?

All the other Uni's in Sydney have their own MYC-style conference. It's much better if students go along to their own Uni's conference. Why?

A huge part of what makes MYC great is the relationships. You get to know other students from your faculty & campus really well, and you get to continue those realtionships on campus. Your friends will miss out on this if they don't get to their own campus' conference.

However, we are flexible. Talk with your MTS'er or staffworker if you've got questions!
